COVID-19: Malaysia Postponed Reopening Their Borders To The World

COVID-19: Malaysia Postponed Reopening Their Borders To The World

In these unprecedented times, the travel and hospitality industries have found themselves to be some of the most severely affected sectors globally.

Most countries haven’t wholly opened their borders yet since they’re inadequately prepared to do so. Moreover, the happening of the second and third waves of coronavirus to some places is alarming. Safety cannot still be guaranteed; thus, travel cannot happen.

Malaysia is one of the Southeast Asian countries that is rethinking of reopenings. Recently in an interview, Malaysia is currently restructuring its plan.

Nancy Shukri, their Tourism Minister, declared that the country might keep its borders closed to international tourists until the second quarter of next year.

As a first step, they’re currently re-drafting a “green” list of countries deemed safe from the virus.

Indonesia’s famous island of Bali also plans to reopen its international tourists’ borders starting this Sept. 11.

Things hotel owners can do while waiting for the tourism sector to transition out of lockdown

Update Hotel Operations

Hotel companies are already taking action to ensure proper COVID safety measures are applied. It is crucial to update hotel operations and health and safety policies to establish credibility and trust.

A plan of action may also help anticipate an outbreak in a hotel or a forced lockdown of a hotel. Reassuring guests and potential customers about the hotel’s efforts through online review response and social media may boost the hotel image despite the pandemic crisis.

Boost Online Marketing Methods

One of the things hotels can do to take advantage of the lockdown period is to improve the hotel website’s SEO. Mainly because results may take time around 3-6 months. SEO can help increase the hotel website’s visibility in search engines and attract more guests from Google searches.

Making your hotel website ready after COVID-19 can help hotel owners outrun their competitors by the time travel lockdowns will be lifted.
